The R&D Center is developing technology to produce methanol using methane that is a by-product gas from petrochemical industry, is a greenhouse gas causing component and is a gas contained in biogas. There are three key technologies: first, removing sulfur and foreign substances contained in the raw material gas and separating it into methane, and second, reforming technology that separates the separated methane into a mixture of hydrogen and hydrocarbons. Third, a technology producing high-purity methanol using a catalyst that increases the reaction of synthetic gas.

By jointly developing this technology with specialized institutions, we intend to build a methanol production system that can change the harmful characteristics of greenhouse gases to produce beneficial products and reduce greenhouse gases.

The government set a greenhouse gas reduction policy and planned to reduce coal power generation and achieve carbon-free power generation according to a carbon neutral scenario. The carbon-free power generation is a system that generates power using a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen.

Recently, it has been aggressively undergoing to develop hydrogen turbine equipment that produces electricity by mixing hydrogen and natural gas at certain ratio and driving a gas turbine and a generator. Our R&D Center is also participating in hydrogen research through the development of mixing system technology needed to supply hydrogen co-fired fuel.
